Work
Volunteers will support 2 kids camps during this workcamp(08/17-20 and 08/21-23). Main works are playing with kids in mountain area, cooking outdoor foods, taking care of animals, farming etc.. Kids will create activity by themselves too. Volunteers will support their meeting and activities too.
Accommodation and food
In dormitory of the nature school. During kids camp, volunteers will stay with kids in same room (But it depend on case!). Cooking with kids too.
Location and leisure
Small village in the forest area, the population is about 5,000, surrounded by rich nature. The temperature in winter can be minus 5-10 though the inside buildings are warm enough! 75km far from Fukushima nuclear power plant.
Project hosted by
Abukuma Nature School Network (ANSN) organized together with NICE since 2010. Their theme is learning from soil and nature, and live together. Many kids in Fukushima pre. are forced to stay indoors for the fear of health risks from radioactivity having been released in the air by the nuclear disaster since March 2011. After disaster ANSN started to organize “Fukushima kids camp” It is for kids who lives in disaster area in Fukushima. Local host Samegawa became chairperson of the Executive committee it, and organized it until 2015. They got support from various famous people. Nowadays, they restarted their farming program and weekend program for family and kids camp during long vacation season in his land, Samegawa.

Other activities: To join seminar about environment and local festival, elementary school visit, etc.
Requirements
Camp language is English.
Interest to communicate with kids! Motivation letter is required.
Volunteer will need travel insurance for the duration of the workcamp.
